Body found on Scottish beach near golf club as police launch probe

Police have launched a ‘sudden death’ investigation after a body was found on a Scottish beach.

Emergency services were called to a beauty spot near Anstruther on Friday morning, and remained at the scene throughout most of the day. Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing, according to the Daily Record.

A stretch of the Fife Coastal Path, which is popular with walkers, has been locked down by uniformed officers. The gender of the person has not yet been released by Police Scotland.

A statement from the force said: “Around 6.40 am on Friday, 10 March 2023, police were called after a body was found on a beach near the golf club in Anstruther, Fife. Officers remain at the scene and enquiries are continuing."

A statement from Anstruther Golf Club added: “Due to an ongoing incident we have been asked to make everyone aware the stretch of coastal path between the club and Pittenweem is closed.

“There is also no access to the course at this time.”
