Body found on M5 in Gloucestershire identified as missing woman

The identity of a person who was found dead on the M5 in Gloucestershire has now been confirmed, police believe.

The body was recovered from the southbound carriageway between J11 for Brockworth and J12 for Quedgeley on Wednesday (October 30).

Lane closures were in place for most of Wednesday as officers dealt with the incident, with the final closure being lifted on Thursday (October 31).

Detectives investigating the death believe the body was that of a 66-year-old woman from Gloucester who was reported missing the same morning.

Her next of kin have been informed.

Officers are not treating the death as suspicious and are compiling a report for the coroner.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Constabulary said: "We would like to thank everyone who responded to appeals for information and dashcam footage following the incident, and road users for their patience and understanding whilst the initial investigation was under way."
