A body has been found inside a property that caught fire this afternoon in Humpty Doo, about 40km southeast of Darwin, say Northern Territory emergency services.

At about 1:40pm, emergency services received a report that a single storey dwelling on Cattledog Court was on fire, NT Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement.

Crews from Palmerston Fire Station and Humpty Doo Fire Station attended the scene, where they found the property fully engulfed in flames.

Emergency services personnel extinguished the fire, before locating a body inside the property during a search.

Police and fire investigators are at the scene and an investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the fire.
