Body found in woodland in search for Army chef, 31, who vanished from home a week ago

Police searching for missing army veteran last seen more than a week ago when she vanished from her home have found a body.

Chelsea Allen, 31, was reported missing on June 26 when she dissappeared at 3am on foot with no phone or money from her home in Helmsley, North Yorkshire.

Police deployed sniffer dogs and drones in a major search aided by a mountain rescue team.

But it has now been confirmed a body had been found in woodland near Helmsley bringing an end to the uncertainty that has affected her loved ones.

Police said formal identification had yet to be made, but officers reckon the body which was found was Chelsea Allen.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "Formal identification has not been confirmed at this stage, but officers believe the body to be Chelsea.

"The circumstances are currently not believed to be suspicious."

"The family of Chelsea Allen have been informed of this news and are currently being supported."

Chelsea was reported missing last Sunday after not being seen since the early hours of the morning.

In the days that followed there was an extensive search involving the police and a mountain rescue team.

The police spokesperson added: "Police would like to thank members of the public for their assistance with sharing the appeals to find Chelsea."
