Body found in search for young caving enthusiast, 24, who went missing on camping trip

A body has been found in the search for a 24-year-old man who left his home to go camping earlier this week and never returned.

Adam Perkins was last seen on Monday, March 20, at around 8pm after leaving his house in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

He had gone camping in the area around Great Ayton in North Yorkshire, where his car was found on Thursday.

Yesterday, North Yorkshire Police confirmed a body has been found in the search for Adam.

Formal identification has not been carried out yet, but the man's family have been informed, the police force added.

North Yorkshire Police said in a statement: "We are very sad to report that we have found a body in the search for missing Adam Perkins, 24, from Sheffield.

"He was found earlier this evening in the Great Ayton area. Although he has not yet been formally identified, Adam's family have been informed."

After locating Adam's car in the Great Ayton area, officers said they believed he was nearby.

A spokesperson for the force said at the time: "24-year-old Adam was last seen and heard from on Monday, March 20, at around 8pm when he left his home address in Sheffield to go camping.

"Officers have since located his car in the Great Ayton area and are conducting searches to find Adam. He has visited the area previously to go caving."
