Body found in search for missing Nottinghamshire man Matthew Gibson

A body has been found in the search for missing Nottinghamshire man Matthew Gibson, police have confirmed. Mr Gibson was reported missing during the early hours of Saturday, January 14.

The disappearance of the Mansfield man triggered a widespread search - and several police media appeals were issued in a quest for vital information. Matthew had been last seen in the Mansfield area at around 7.30pm the night before.

And in an investigation update on Monday (January 23) police confirmed a man's body has since been found near Old Newark Road, Rainworth, on Saturday, January 21.

Detective Inspector Andrew Hall, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Whilst formal identification has yet to take place, Mr Gibson's family have been informed of this very sad discovery. We do not believe what happened to be suspicious, but we are keen to understand exactly what has happened.

"Anyone with additional information is asked to call 101 quoting incident 390 of Sunday 15 January." Local residents had organised a search party to look for Matthew on Sunday, to meet in Rainworth.
