POLICE have found a body believed to be a missing Hunter man following a significant search in the region.

Authorities had been searching in the Upper Rouchel area after Keith Banks, 81, was last seen leaving a home on Stewarts Road at Woolooma about 1pm on Monday.

NSW Police confirmed on Friday that the body of a man had been found about 3.20pm in that area.

"While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of the missing man," police said in a statement.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Investigators determined Mr Banks had attended a service station at Gundy about 1.30pm on Monday, before driving away from the location.

Following extensive inquiries, Mr Banks' dark grey Honda Civic sedan was located bogged in bushland about 4pm on Wednesday, November 13.

Police Rescue, PolAir and the NSW State Emergency Service assisted in the search effort.
