Body found in Scots burn as cops lock down scene and launch probe

A body has been found in a river in Dumfries and Galloway, sparking a police investigation.

The discovery was made at around 8am on Monday, November 14 when officers were called to Dalbeattie Burn, which runs through the town of Dalbeattie. It was there that they found a 55-year-old man deceased.

Photos taken at the scene show several plain clothes and CID officers patrolling the David Street Bridge, which spans the waterway.

The area, which is situated near a housing development, has been sealed off to prevent members of the public from passing through. Numerous cop cars can also be seen parked stationary nearby.

The circumstances surrounding the man's passing are not yet known, although officers say they are not currently treating the death as suspicious.

Door to door enquiries at surrounding houses are also understood to have been carried out, and anyone with any information on the incident is being urged to come forward.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8am on Monday, 14 November, 2022, the body of a 55-year-old man was found near to David Road, Dalbeattie.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. Next of kin have been informed”.
