After racing to the Midlothian town, officers closed the busy road in order to investigate the incident. While their enquiries are ongoing, police do not believe there to be suspicious circumstances around the death at this moment in time.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.45pm on Sunday, 14 May, 2023, we received a report of a body in the Dean Burn, adjacent to Edinburgh Road, Penicuik.

“A 29-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing but there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
