Body found in Mayo as gardai continue search for second missing man

The search for a man missing from Mayo since Tuesday has been stood down following the discovery of a body in Castlebar yesterday.

Peter Roland, 69, was reported missing on January 17. He was last seen that morning around 1am near the Westport Road in Castlebar wearing pyjamas.

Gardai issued a missing persons appeal later that day, stating that his family were "concerned for his welfare”.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed yesterday that their appeal has been stood down following the discovery of a body.

They thanked the public for their help, saying: “The missing person appeal in respect of Philip Rowland, 69 years, has been stood down following the discovery of a man's body earlier today in the Castlebar area. We would like to thank the public and media for their assistance in this matter.”

Meanwhile a search is continuing for a second man reported missing from Mayo.

Seamus Cawley, 68, went missing from his home in Crossmolina on Monday. He was last seen that morning at around 10am when he left in a silver Volkswagen Golf with partial registration of 08-MO.

He was wearing a green jumper, checked shirt and navy trousers and is described as being around 5’9” tall, of stocky build with grey hair.

Gardai launched a missing persons appeal on Wednesday saying: “Gardai and Seamus’ family are concerned for his welfare.”

Anyone with any information on Seamus' whereabouts is asked to contact Ballina Garda Station on 096 20560, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
