Body found in hunt for missing grandad who vanished from home five months ago

A body has been found in the search for a missing grandad who vanished nearly five months ago.

William Hogg, 75, was last seen in Stirling, Scotland, on Wednesday, October 5. Police and mountain rescue teams carried out extensive searches in the area following his disappearance.

Officers have now confirmed that a body has been discovered in a wooded area in rural west Scotland.

Formal identification has yet to take place but William's heartbroken family have been informed.

The body, found near the hamlet of Kilmahog in Callander is thought to be that of the missing pensioner, who was from Falkirk.

There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances relating to the death. In December we told how despite combing CCTV footage, no trace of the pensioner had been found prompting a fresh plea from his granddaughter Amy Rooney, the Daily Record reports.

She wrote: “Just doing a wee re-appeal to see if anyone has seen or heard from my Papa. He's been missing since Wednesday 5th October 2022 and was last seen in Callander on the day he went missing but is from Falkirk.

“So he could be anywhere by now. Can everyone please have a wee think to see if they have seen him and also look at dash cams on cars and vans etc. I just hope he's safe. He must be somewhere.”

On Saturday morning a Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed: "Around 4pm on Friday, February 24, the body of a man was discovered in a wooded area near to Kilmahog, Callander.

"Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of 75-year-old William Hogg from Falkirk, who was last seen in the Callander area on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, have been informed.

"There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
