Body found in Greenock amid search for man who vanished from hospital

A body has been found in the search for a man who vanished from a hospital in Inverclyde.

Glasgow Live reported that Stephen McFarlane was last seen on CCTV inside Inverclyde Royal Hospital, Greenock at around 2am on July 7. The 32-year-old is not believed to be carrying his medication, which he needs to take on a daily basis.

Police have now revealed that a body has been found off Inverkip road in Greenock. The tragic discovery was made at around 5.45pm on Thursday.

Formal identification is yet to take place but officers confirmed that Stephen's family have been informed. The death is currently being treated as 'unexplained' and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Police Division released a statement on Friday morning.

It read: "The body of a man has been found off Inverkip Road in Greenock. The body was found around 5.45pm on Thursday, July 14.

"He is still to be formally identified but the family of Stephen McFarlane, 32, from Greenock, who had been reported missing on Monday, July 11 has been informed. The death is currently being treated as unexplained and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
