The body of a 54-year-old Northern Territory man has been found in a submerged car at West Beach in Adelaide.

Police were called to a local boat ramp at 6am on Thursday after reports of two cars in the water.

Water operations officers later found the body of the man, who has not been publicly identified, in the driver's seat of a Toyota 4WD.

The other vehicle, a partially submerged Mitsubishi 4WD, was unoccupied.

Western District Police are preparing a report for the State Coroner and no suspicious circumstances or criminal offences have been disclosed at this time.

Detectives and forensics officers remain at the scene, with the boat ramp closed while their investigations continue.
