A body has been found after a fire ripped through a Kilmarnock house in the early hours of this morning.
Police have confirmed that the body of the person was discovered in a home on Macphail Drive at around 2.40am.
Cops say the fire is not being treated as suspicious but enquiries are ongoing into the blaze.
An eyewitness at the scene said: “There was a heavy presence of police and a couple of fire engines at least.
“The police have sealed off the street from both ends with officers patrolling every entrance to the street, including a back entrance from the flats up the hill.
“The house is badly damaged and it’s very sad news about the occupant, my thoughts are with them.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a fire at property on Macphail Drive, Kilmarnock, around 2.40am on Tuesday, February 22.
“The fire was extinguished by the fire service but the body of a person was found within.
