Body find in Scots park beside motorway sparks police investigation

Police have launched an investigation after the body of a man was discovered in a park on the outskirts of Glasgow next to a busy motorway.

Officers were called to Molendinar Park in the Blackhill area in the city's north-east at around 10.40am on Saturday December 10 after the body was discovered, Glasgow Live reports. Emergency services remain on the scene and a southbound lane of the M80 motorway has been closed to assist with investigation efforts.

Formal identification of the man is yet to take place. In the meantime, motorists have been advised to take care on the approach to the affected stretch of motorway between Junction 2 and Junction 1 at Robroyston, where traffic is described as "heavy".

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.40am on Saturday, 10 December, 2022, police were called to Molendinar Park in Glasgow, after the body of a man was found.

"Emergency services remain at the scene and enquiries are ongoing. Formal identification has yet to take place.”

Trunk road managers Amey said in a tweet that the inside lane of the southbound M80 was closed due to "an ongoing police incident", adding: "Approach with care."

Road network monitors Traffic Scotland added: "#M80 Southbound Junction 2 - Junction 1. Lane 1 CLOSED. Approach with care, traffic is heavy in the area."
