Body discovery in Lanarkshire housing estate not suspicious

Police say they are not treating the discovery of a man's body in a stretch of water close to a Blantyre housing estate as suspicious.

Officers swooped on parkland just off of Westerpark Avenue, close to Dornoch and Halkirk Gate in the Westcraigs area of the town, shortly after 5pm on Monday evening.

Residents in the area reported a heavy police presence and a large corden in place at a park lane which is frequented by local dog walkers, families and kids.

They also saw a police helicopter hovering overhead shortly before officers arrived at the scene and quickly closed off a large part of land.

Now, police are working to establish the full circumstances of the death.
