The bodies of two men have been recovered after a boat capsized in waters off Kangaroo Island, southwest of Adelaide.
South Australian police say they were notified when a boat was found upturned off Cassini, on the island's north coast, at 4.15pm on Wednesday.
The local coast guard and police air wing assisted emergency services in a search of the area and quickly found the overturned vessel.
The men were both aged 65 and both from the island town of Kingscote. Their bodies were recovered by emergency personnel.
The well-known pair had worked together as professional anglers, were mates and knew the area well, according to local media reports.
Kangaroo Island Mayor Michael Pengilly told ABC Radio the men were sailing through thick fog when the boat capsized.
"Something has gone tragically wrong and as you know the sea doesn't take any prisoners," he said.
"Unfortunately, we've lost two of our very good people."
The police Water Operations Unit was expected to try to recover the boat from the water on Thursday.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner and said investigations were continuing.
South Australia's workplace health and safety regulator, Safework SA, was also notified of the deaths.
An overnight search for a kayaker missing southeast of the River Murray mouth, along the state's Coorong, has meanwhile ended happily.
The paddler, aged in his 70s, set off along the coast on Monday but the alarm was raised when he stopped making regular contact on Wednesday. PolAir and Water Operations Police conducted a co-ordinated search of the area.
Despite patchy reception, police were able to reach the man by phone and confirm he was safe late on Wednesday night and sighted him on Thursday morning, near Long Island.
