Bob Odenkirk left with memory loss following heart attack on Better Call Saul set

Bob Odenkirk was struck down with a heart attack in July.

The 59-year-old collapsed on set of the Netflix show Better Call Saul - the Breaking Bad spin-off - during filming in New Mexico and was taken to hospital away in an ambulance for treatment.

He told fans he was on the mend just two days after his worrying health woes since got back to work.

And in a new chat with The Guardian, the actor has told how his "small heart attack" left him with memory loss of the day of his heart issues as well as the first couple of weeks of his recovery.

“I missed out on that existential lightning bolt. On the other hand, there’s a lingering …, ” he recalled while laughing.

“Is there such a thing as a lingering lightning bolt? We’ll invent that term.”

When quizzed on if suffering from the heart attack has changed the way he looks at his life, he shared: “I think I’m still thinking about it."

Last summer, when Odenkirk was rushed to hospital his representatives told USA TODAY in a statement at the time that he suffered from a heart attack.

"(Odenkirk) and his family would like to express gratitude for the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, as well as his cast, crew and producers who have stayed by his side," the statement said.

"The Odenkirks would also like to thank everyone for the outpouring of well wishes and ask for their privacy at this time as Bob works on his recovery."

"Hi. It's Bob. Thank you. To my family and friends who have surrounded me this week," he told his followers.

His tweet continued: "And for the outpouring of love from everyone who expressed concern and care for me. It’s overwhelming.

"But I feel the love and it means so much."

He then followed up with a second message, reading: "Had a small heart attack. But I'm going to be ok thanks to Rosa Estrada and the doctors who knew how to fix the blockage without surgery.

The final season of Better Call Saul kicked off filming on March 10 this year.

Bob's role follows on from him transforming from earnest legal professional Jimmy McGill in Breaking Bad.

Better Call Saul follows Bob's character as he tackles cases as a powerful and greedy criminal defence lawyer.

He has yielded him four Golden Globe nominations for best actor in a television series drama, and four Emmy nominations for outstanding lead actor in a drama series for his part in the show.
