Bob Mortimer in secret hospital dash as he admits he's 'not very well'

Bob Mortimer has revealed he was taken to hospital over the weekend in a health scare.

The comedian, 63, opened up about his health while appearing on Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast in London last night, admitting he's "not very healthy at the moment."

Bob explained: "I am not very well. I am not very healthy at the moment." The comic - who had triple heart bypass surgery in 2015 - went on to discuss ending up in hospital recently.

The audience at Leicester Square Theatre heard how he was working on a fishing show last week which involved two and half days of filming, which he said ended on Thursday.

As reported by the Sun, he said: "I did it Tuesday, Wednesday and half of Thursday and I was in hospital on the Saturday. I'm sorry I shouldn't have said that should I? It's a real downer."

Bob - who has been open about having experienced heart problems - is said to have also discussed having rheumatoid arthritis during the podcast appearance.

According to the outlet, Bob explained he had initially been diagnosed with the condition forty years ago and said it returned recently after decades without it.

The comedian said he had been free of the condition - which causes pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints - since he was in his thirties but it came back earlier this month.

The outlet reports Bob said during the filming of the podcast last night: "It is really sad for me to know whether it will go. Yes I might be fat but actually I am on steroids."

Bob has been open about his health in the past, having undergone a triple heart bypass surgery in 2015. He has since spoken about how it changed his perspective on life.

He said a few years ago: "It changes how you feel about things and you become a lot more aware of your health. It gives you a kick up the backside and gets things in perspective."

It's understood that he had the emergency surgery seven years ago after doctors discovered that his arteries were more than 90 percent blocked.

Bob appears alongside comedy partner Paul Whitehouse, 64, in the BBC series Gone Fishing - which returned for its fifth series recently. You can catch up via the BBC iPlayer now.
