Bob Knight Released From Hospital, Family Issues Statement

Hall of Fame coach Bob Knight was hospitalized over the weekend with an illness, according to a Monday afternoon statement from his family.

Pat Knight, a Pacers scout and son of the 82-year-old coach, said in a statement on behalf of the Knight family that his father had since been released from the hospital.

"As many have heard, my dad was hospitalized over the weekend with an illness and has since been released from the hospital. We ask for your privacy as he is cared for and resting at home in good hands," the statement said. "Coach always taught us, and those that played for him, the importance of fighting through adversity and he and our family thank you for the tremendous amount of support you have shown and given during this time. We appreciate your continued thoughts and prayers."

Knight coached ArmyIndiana and Texas Tech from 1965-2008, winning three national titles with the Hoosiers and amassing one of the most successful records in college basketball history.

A lightning rod for controversy throughout his tenure, Knight was fired by Indiana in Sept. 2000 after allegedly accosting a student. He finished his career with the Red Raiders and worked as an analyst for ESPN from 2008-15.
