Bob Dylan announces ‘Rough and Rowdy Ways’ West Coast tour leg

SAN DIEGO — Bob Dylan is wasting little time getting back on the road after last week’s conclusion of the spring leg of his Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour.

The Nobel Prize-winning music legend today announced 14 new West Coast dates, starting with a May 28 show in Spokane and concluding with a June 18 performance in San Diego.

His other new tour additions include Washington and Oregon shows in Kennewick and Eugene, respectively, followed by a Northern California gig in Redding. He and his band will then wind their way down the coast with three concerts in Oakland and three in Los Angeles, before wrapping up the tour leg in San Diego.

Dylan’s June 18 San Diego Civic Theatre concert will replace the Pechanga Arena San Diego date he had been scheduled to perform on June 17, 2020.

The Pechanga Arena concert was canceled, along with the rest of Dylan’s 2020 tour, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He did not return to concert stages until late last year. Dylan’s most recent San Diego performance was in 2016 at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay.

Why he is now opting to perform in San Diego at the 2,967-seat Civic Theatre rather than Pechanga Arena, whose capacity is more than four times as large, is unclear. But the move to the smaller venue means fans will have to act quickly to obtain tickets, which are priced between $59.50 and $134.50 for his Civic Theatre concert.

VIP packages will also be available, according to Dylan’s website, but those prices have not yet been announced.

Tickets for all the new tour dates go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday through bobdylan.com. An online only presale, for which the password is “ROWDY,” will be held Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Dylan, whose 81st birthday is May 24, plans to continue his Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour through at least 2024. It is named after his 39th studio album, which was released June 19, 2020, two days after his since-canceled San Diego concert that same year. His new book, “The Philosophy of Modern Song” will be published Nov. 10.

The legendary singer-songwriter has not yet disclosed if he will attend the May 10 opening of his archives at the new Bob Dylan Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma’s second largest city. He skipped the 2016 Nobel Prize ceremony at which he was honored.
