Bob Arum still hopes to stage Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte in Cardiff on March 26

Bob Arum is still planning to stage the clash between Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte in Cardiff on March 26 despite the continued delay around negotiations.

Fury has been ordered to defend his WBC heavyweight title against domestic rival Whyte with the organisation ruling an 80 per cent purse split in the champion's favour.

Whyte has chosen to appeal the split and is locked in arbitration with the organisation which has led to purse bids being delayed for a second time.

But Fury's promoter Arum remains confident that a deal can be reached so the winner can face either Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua in an undisputed clash.

“Let Fury fight Dillian Whyte. Let Joshua fight Usyk in their rematch and then the winners can fight,” Arum told World Boxing News.

“We hope to get Tyson on board and then we’ll go ahead and get the match made and Eddie (Hearn) will finalise the match with Usyk and Joshua.”

Arum later confirmed that a date remains "pencilled in" for the event to take place on March 26 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

He also added that Fury's co-promoter Frank Warren is "holding the date" at the stadium due to it being the largest stadium in the UK with a roof and is capable of holding 75,000 fans.

“Hopefully we’ll get it done,” Arum concluded. “Dillian Whyte in the UK against Tyson Fury is a big, big fight and we’ll do good business and we’ll find a way to get it done.”

Fury has been left frustrated after planning to return to the ring in March, only to be told he may not have an opponent while negotiations with Whyte rumble on.

Whyte has been left unhappy with the purse split announced by the WBC and is demanding a purse of £10 million according to Arum.

Alternative opponents have been proposed for Fury if a fight is unable to get over the line by March including Manuel Charr and Robert Helenius.

The 'Gypsy King' will receive permission to seek a different challenge if a deal cannot be agreed this week with purse bids now rescheduled for Friday.

However Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn is refusing to give up on Whyte's pursuit of a higher purse split and will support the 'Body Snatcher' in his appeal.

Hearn has also suggested that a fight could take place as late as April or May while the situation is resolved.

Hearn told BBC 5 Live Boxing podcast : "People keep talking about March dates - that's starting to look unrealistic for a fight of this magnitude.

"Either March, April, early May potentially. This is the window for the fight. Depends what happens this week. There are so many conversations going on behind the scenes right now.

"Something could turn at any moment. You're talking about a lot of money - a difference of 25 per cent. The normal split for any mandatory challenger is a lot more than 80/20.The normal split for an interim champion is up to 45 per cent."
