BMW launches aggressive looking all-around F 850 GS bike

F 850 GS Adventure.

BMW Motorrad Thailand is strengthening its product line-up with the introduction of the new F 850 GS that offers a blend of on- and off-road performance, and appeals to buyers seeking an introduction to the world of touring enduros.

The new F 850 GS is priced from 594,000-599,000 baht while the F 850 GS Adventure is priced at 649,000 baht.

Both models are powered by an in-line 2-cylinder engine with a displacement of 853cc mated to a six-speed gearbox. The F 850 GS has a top speed of more than 200kph, while the F 850 GS Adventure has a top speed of 197kph, and both models have a fuel consumption of 4.2 litres per 100km based on WMTC.

2023 BMW F 850 GS ADVENTURE

The BMW F 850 GS Adventure introduces the concept of an authentic adventure touring lifestyle.

The simplest way for BMW to communicate the capability of the Adventure is to use the model to compete in the BMW GS Trophy every two years.

The F 850 GS Adventure was designed for lengthy journeys and challenging terrains. This dual-sport motorbike is fully-equipped for long-distance travels thanks to its expanded standard equipment list, which includes a TFT display, BMW Motorrad Connected, a USB port, ABS Pro and DTC.

BMW says that the Adventure is capable of overcoming nearly any surface -- whether asphalt or dirt. It is possible to personalise the bike according to your preferences with a substantial number of optional equipment, as well as the following standard features:

• Dynamic electronic suspension adjustment

• ABS Pro and dynamic traction control

• 27.7-litre fuel tank

• Optional Ride Modes Pro

• Adjustable touring windshield and USB charging port

• BMW Motorrad connectivity and 6.5-inch TFT colour display

• Comfort seat

Versatility

The Adventure is equipped for traversing any terrain, thanks to engine protection bars. Various aluminium cases are also available, allowing the rider to increase storage space when planning a long journey.

Performance

The powerful parallel-twin engine develops 95hp at 8,250rpm and is great for a long ride. Meanwhile, with 92Nm of torque at 6,250rpm, this dual-sport motorcycle can handle most off-road challenges too. Ride Modes Pro with engine braking control and dynamic brake control improve comfort and precision, while dynamic mode makes rides more fun to ride as well.

Suspension

The F 850 GS Adventure comes with a cast aluminium two-sided swing arm, WAD strut (travel related damping), hydraulically adjustable spring pre-load at handwheel, and adjustable rebound damping. The front/rear suspension travel is 230mm/215mm.

Colour options

The Adventure has new side panels and the typical GS styling. There is a black finish, while the Kalamata metallic matte paint brings out the bike's lines and matches the Adventure's style.

Almost anything can be done with the standard F 850 GS. It has a lot of safety and comfort features that make it great for various terrain. It's made to be strong, but not as extreme as the Adventure model. The fuel tank capacity is only 15.1 litres.

Riding Modes

Various ride modes in the F 850 GS deliver different throttle responsiveness with "rain" and "road" modes activated via a designated button. There's also "dynamic" mode, which is best for asphalt, while "Enduro" mode is best for gravel.

Suspension

The standard suspension is fairly similar to the F 850 GS Adventure but not as extreme. It features a cast aluminum dual swing arm, central spring strut, adjustable spring pre-load and adjustable rebound damping, but has less suspension travel of 204mm/219mm.
