A man has been arrested after a crash on the M53.
The motorway was closed in both directions, on Sunday, May 22, after a crash involving a blue BMW and a blue Honda Accord. Emergency services, including North West Ambulance service and police, rushed to the scene between junction 9 and 10 at around 9.20pm.
Highways England confirmed both directions of the motorway were closed while emergency services attended and police incident investigation which took place overnight. There was also an engine oil spillage which needed cleaning away following the police investigation.

North West Ambulance service said they took two men to hospital following the crash and that both patients suffered serious injuries. Police have now confirmed that one person has been arrested following the crash.
The driver of the BMW, a 36-year-old man from Widnes, was arrested on suspicion of being unfit through drink or drugs and causing serious injury by dangerous driving He remains in custody assisting police with enquiries. The driver of the Honda, a 55-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. His condition is described as stable.
