A BMW 'crashed into the front of pub' as drinkers were evacuated from the establishment and nearby roads closed. Police confirmed that no one was injured in the incident but the building was left 'severely damaged' by the collision.
The incident occurred last night in Liverpool, with emergency services being called to the scene of the crash at around 8:22pm. Police officers and fire crews arrived at May Duncan’s pub and immediately began evacuation.
Merseyside Police then promptly closed nearby streets, so that they could begin investigation work and urged the public to avoid the area. It has been confirmed by the police that the crash was damage only, and that no injuries occurred, reports the Liverpool Echo.
A spokesperson said: "Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at an incident on Heyworth Street in Liverpool. Crews were alerted at 20.37 and two fire engines arrived on scene at 20.42 A council structural engineer has been requested and the road has been closed.
"Fire Service personnel have cordoned off the footpath. Please avoid the area.”
Following investigations and evacuations from the emergency services, a recovery truck attended the scene to remove the vehicle. Pieces of the Black BMW's bodywork and a headlight were left on the floor outside of the pub.
A structural engineer then attended the scene, making the pub safe and boarding it up.
