He said it in the 90s, and now it’s taken on a whole new meaning - Modern Life really is Rubbish, according to Damon Albarn.
The Blur frontman has grumbled he is getting 'too old-fashioned' after being 'cast into the social media abyss' of Taylor Swift ’s fierce fanbase.
Damon, who turns 54 in March, played an orchestral version of Song 2 at a gig in LA, after getting called out on social media in a furious backlash over his claim that Taylor, 32, did not write her own music.
Bad Blood singer Taylor fumed: “I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really f***** up to try and discredit my writing.
"WOW. PS I wrote this tweet all by myself in case you were wondering," she added.
Damon, whose band Blur released Modern Life is Rubbish in 1993, claims his words were 'reduced to clickbait'.
He apologised 'unreservedly and unconditionally'.
He said: “The last thing I would want to do is discredit your songwriting.”
During the controversial interview, Albarn said that he prefers Billie Eilish's music over Taylor's.
The musician called Eilish 'a really interesting songwriter'.
"I'm more attracted to that than to Taylor Swift. It's just darker - less endlessly upbeat. Way more minor and odd. I think she's exceptional," he insisted.
Eilish co-writes her songs with her brother, producer Finneas.
But when the interviewer said that Swift also co-writes her music, Albarn responded: "That doesn't count. I know what co-writing is. Co-writing is very different to writing.
"I'm not hating on anybody, I'm just saying there's a big difference between a songwriter and a songwriter who co-writes."
Following his comments about the 32-year-old superstar, Damon has faced intense backlash online.
