Blundering thief nicks Christmas decoration from family garden by cutting wires

Doorbell camera footage captured the moment a man stole Christmas decorations from a family's garden. However, the blundering thief cut the wires to do so, meaning the lights now won't work, reports Derbyshire Live.

The incident occurred on December 1, with the footage showing the hooded man walking into the garden and going straight for the decorations. He picks them up off the ground before brazenly walking out of the open gate and down the street.

The acrylic reindeer Christmas lights that were pilfered belonged to Nickola Mosley and cost her £49.99 when she had bought them last year. The mother says she only noticed they had disappeared when she opened the door to let her children in from school that afternoon.

After noticing her Christmas decorations were gone from the garden, the mum checked her doorbell footage to ascertain more information. However, before doing so she noticed the wire for the lights was still hanging from her window.

Her son then found the scissors used by the thief discarded in their garden. Nickola said: “It’s just so bizarre. We can’t quite understand why they’ve cut them, because they’re not going to work.

"Are they going to rewire them? I don’t know.”

The mother now cannot reorder the lights as they are out of stock on the retailer's website. Nickola said: “It’s quite annoying with the cost of living and everything and because I want it to look nice for people walking past and for my kids when they come home from school. I always get compliments on how lovely it looks when we turn the lights on when it gets dark.

“Now I’m worried about putting other stuff out there because some of it is worth more than the reindeer. I have a ten-foot blow-up Santa and I do not want to put it out there.

“Some children walked past the other day and asked me where our decorations were. I had to tell them we’d taken them down."
