Blumhouse Cancels Truth Or Dare 2 Sequel Due To COVID-19

COVID-19 outbreak in Beijing

Director Jeff Wadlow recently shed light on the cancellation of the proposed sequel for the 2018 horror film Truth or Dare, produced by Blumhouse. The original movie centered around a group of friends whose game of 'truth or dare' takes a sinister turn, resulting in deadly consequences for those who refuse to participate.

Following the success of Truth or Dare, talks of a sequel were in the air. Wadlow had envisioned a meta storyline for Truth or Dare 2, where the actors would experience the events of the game while on vacation together. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, plans for the sequel were abruptly halted.

Wadlow shared that during the pandemic, Blumhouse proposed the idea of quarantining with the cast and crew on the Universal lot to film the sequel. However, the studio soon realized the health risks and financial implications of such a setup, leading to the project's cancellation.

Despite receiving mixed reviews, Truth or Dare managed to gross an impressive $95.3 million worldwide on a modest budget of $3.5 million. The cancellation of Truth or Dare 2 was a missed opportunity for Wadlow and his team to explore their intriguing concept further.

While the sequel may not come to fruition, Blumhouse has continued to thrive in the horror genre. Since the release of Truth or Dare, the studio has delivered successful films like The Invisible Man and the Halloween franchise reboot. Notably, the horror studio announced a sequel to M3GAN, titled M3GAN 2.0, set for release in 2025.

Blumhouse's recent projects include Night Swim, with upcoming titles such as Imaginary, Speak No Evil, and Wolf Man on the horizon. Despite the setback of Truth or Dare 2, Blumhouse remains a prominent player in the horror film industry, consistently producing engaging and thrilling content.

While Truth or Dare 2 may have been put on hold, fans can look forward to the exciting lineup of horror films coming from Blumhouse in the near future.
