Radical plans are being devised to form a huge engineering park across from Crosshouse Hospital.
The Kilmarnock site would form part of the Moorfield Industrial Estate in the town with proposals at an embryonic stage.
Blueprints drafted by the applicant, East Ayrshire Council, shows a desire to throw up four wind turbines at the site with a solar array field at the foot of the structures.
Split into phases, the first stage would see 4x 675m2 units, 3x 1,100m2 units and seven smaller units of varying sizes erected along Kilmarnock Road (B7081) adjacent to Crosshouse Hospital.
Three suds ponds form part of plans along with plenty of electric vehicle parking spaces.
The wind turbines and solar panels also fall within this phase.
A second phase would see five plots created, each with two acres and the biggest with 2.9 acres.
Plans suggest the estate would be served by a bus with road access being created from the existing roundabout that's shared with the hospital entrance.
A second entry would be created on the B7081 between Moorfield roundabout and Dalespark Roundabout where Irvine Road and Kilmarnock Road merge.
Plans submitted to the council's planning authority are for a screening request - to determine whether or not the development needs an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). The local authority has determined that an EIA is required.
A complete planning application for the development is anticipated to follow in due course.
