A joker has commemorated the spot where Rishi Sunak was filmed in a car whilst not wearing a seatbelt by putting up a blue plaque.
Earlier this month, the Prime Minister was filmed in the back of a moving car while failing to wear a seatbelt. Sunak later said he had made a 'brief error of judgment' by removing the safety device as he promoted his levelling-up funding in the Instagram video when he visited Lancashire on January 19.
He was later handed a fixed penalty notice after police investigated the matter. At the time, a Downing Street spokesman said Mr Sunak 'fully accepts this was a mistake’ and apologised for the incident.
Unwilling to let the moment be forgotten, one prankster has now slapped a version of the well-known English Hertiage Blue Plaque sign, which marks historic locations, onto a lamppost in Blackpool, reports Lancs Live.
The sign reads: "Rishi Sunak 19-01-23 received a fixed penalty notice for being filmed passing Squires Gate Lane while not wearing a seatbelt during his visit to Blackpool."
It is not yet known who placed the plaque on the lamppost.
Lancashire Police have not revealed how much the Prime Minister’s fine was, but fixed penalty notices for seatbelt offences are usually £100, rising to up to £500 if taken to court.
On January 20, the force said: “You will be aware that a video has been circulating on social media showing an individual failing to wear a seatbelt while a passenger in a moving car in Lancashire.
“After looking into this matter, we have today issued a 42-year-old man from London with a conditional offer of fixed penalty.”
