The Red Sox made history.
The Blue Jays owned the Red Sox all year. And on Sunday afternoon at the Rogers Centre, they finished up what they started.
With three more towering home runs, the Jays handled the Sox in a 6-3 win that completed the three-game sweep.
It’s the third consecutive three-game series in which the Jays won every game, as they finished the year 16-3 overall against the Sox while outscoring them 125-55.
Move over ’73 Tigers and ’19 Yankees, the ’22 Blue Jays are the new overlords of Boston’s finest as they snapped the Sox’ previous franchise record of 15 losses to one team in a season.
Kevin Gausman entered with a 2.32 ERA in five starts for the Sox this season. He gave up a two-run double to Bobby Dalbec in the second inning, then left the game after three innings due to a cut on his finger. Dalbec also hit a solo shot in the seventh for his 12th home run of the year.
Michael Wacha made his final start of the season and continued his struggles of late, as he allowed three monster shots, two by Teoscar Hernandez, who hit 826 feet of homers. Whit Merrifield also homered.
Wacha, a free agent to be, finished his season 11-2 with a 3.32 ERA.
The Sox fell to 75-84. They return home Monday for three against the Rays to end the season.
