Blue bin collections in Stockport will return to a fortnightly schedule from the end of next month.
Paper and cardboard recycling will again be picked up every two weeks beginning on Monday, August 31.
Collection days will be the same as they are now.
The service has been continuing on a four-weekly basis since April, as the number of staff needing to self-isolate because of coronavirus meant the usual timetable could not be maintained.
However green bins - which were collected on a weekly basis before the pandemic - will continue to be emptied every fortnight.
Bosses say this is so workers can be freed up to help with cleaning in the town centre and other parts of the borough.
This will continue until March 29 next year, when the council says the service will permanently return to a weekly collection ‘in time for the busiest period of the year for garden waste’.
Coun Sheila Bailey, cabinet member for Sustainable Stockport, said: “On behalf of the council I would like to express my thanks to Stockport residents for their understanding and patience during this period when changes have had to be made due to the impact of Covid-19.
"By continuing to collect green waste on a fortnightly basis for the next eight months, returning staff can be redirected to provide additional support with cleaning in the town centre and district centres as well as helping to deal with the backlog of highways, public realm, grass cutting and tree work that did not take place during the lockdown."
The current collections schedule will expire at the end of October.
A new, two-year calendar will be sent out to residents before then.
