Blowing hot and cold on Keir Starmer’s leadership

I am clearly one of the “leftwing faint-hearts” referred to in John Harris’s article (Dear Keir, the polls are tightening and frankly, people are worried. You have to raise your game, 16 April). I have sent two emails to Sir Keir Starmer to express my unease at the anti-Sunak ads and have received two automated responses in return. That’s it – zilch.

Is this perhaps AI at its simplest? (The computer says “No – go away.”) Well then, I hope the Labour party has stocked up on robots to deliver its election leaflets next year because, at this rate, I don’t feel inclined to do so. Perhaps Sir Keir and those responsible for this campaign think we will all suck it up and deliver when the time comes? I am not so sure I want to be associated with a party that sinks to Boris Johnson’s level.

• I was sad to read John Harris complaining about Keir Starmer’s lack of charismatic rhetoric, speaking in “a deadening political argot”. Starmer’s lack of charisma is clear, but isn’t it a relief to trade in the empty bluster of “charismatic” Boris Johnson for integrity and an intelligent approach to the desperate needs of the country? Surely the Guardian can better discuss the relief for millions in Starmer’s lack of mendacious flummery?
