Parents in Irvine have been dealt a blow after council chiefs pushed back the opening date of a new state-of the-art nursery at the 11th hour.
The £3.7m Marress House Early Years Centre was due to open in January 2023 following a transformation of Irvine's old tax office.
But North Ayrshire Council today confirmed that the first intake of children will now not take place until seven months later - in August 2023.
The local authority say that although they hoped to open the centre earlier, disruption caused by issues with the global supply chain have resulted in a delay to the handover of the building, now scheduled for mid-2023.
A council spokesperson said: "Early Years staff have been in contact with the parents and carers whose children were hoping to attend the new Early Years Centre from January 2023.
"All children have been offered alternative high-quality provision that meets their needs and they will have the opportunity to take up their place at Marress House in August 2023 if they choose.
"Currently, it is expected that registration for the new centre will take place early next year in plenty of time for the centre opening in August."
Work is continuing on the project which will see the complete transformation of the former tax office in Irvine.
Once finished, the building will house a state-of-the-art Early Years centre, a professional learning and collaboration space, and CCTV and concierge accommodation.
