A new movie about Nessie has its own secret – it wasn’t filmed on Loch Ness.
Director Robbie Moffat decided not to shoot scenes for Nessie at Loch Ness, instead choosing Loch Awe, in Argyll, as it was much more accessible for crews.
But the film – which cost £500,000 to make – still includes stunning Highland scenery.
Taggart actor John Michie and Dynasty’s Stephanie Beacham have starring roles in the movie, which centres around an American billionaire who leaves a community £20million in his will to fund the hunt for the Loch Ness Monster.
The billionaire’s son Brad, played by Mission Impossible actor Patrick Kilpatrick, contests his father’s will and attempts to debunk the whole idea of a Loch Ness monster.
Glasgow-born director Moffat said: “It’s an endearing and feelgood family film that will appeal to all ages. The fascination of Nessie is enduring.
“It already has significant interest from broadcasters and will be rolled out to cinemas after its premiere in Glasgow.”
Nessie – which will premiere at Glasgow’s Grosvenor Picture Theatre on August 5 – was the first shoot by Doctor Who actress Tanya Fear since she sparked a disappearance hunt in the US. She was found in Los Angeles after being reported missing in 2021.
The actress, whose full name is Tanyaradzwa Fear, has also appeared in TV series Spotless, Endeavour, DCI Banks and
Midsomer Murders.
In Nessie she plays Heather, the lawyer love interest for Geordie, who runs boat tours on Loch Ness. He is played by Jason Harvey.
