New leaks reveal more details about Blizzard's potential remaster for Warcraft 2 and how it is more similar to Diablo II: Resurrected than Warcraft III: Reforged.

The development comes ahead of the studio's 30th anniversary celebrations for the Warcraft franchise, which is on Nov. 15, 2024. The rumors about a Warcraft 2 remaster is making fans of the series particularly hyped.

Warcraft 2 Remaster

The series' anniversary celebration will culminate with the Warcraft Direct event that is scheduled for Nov. 13, 2024.

There have already been various leaked images that showed up on Battle.net showing familiar characters such as Anduin Lothar in scenarios that are reminiscent of the game's Alliance-Orc battles.

When Warcraft 2 was first released, many players loved the game for its core gameplay of resource management and focus on tactical position for battles. It also featured intense action with the two main factions, Humans and Orcs.

But as is customary of the remaster trend over the past few years, many fans want updated versions of their favorite games that still respect the original's essence.

This is something that Blizzard's Warcraft III: Reforged struggled to do during its time, according to Game Rant.

This is something that Blizzard is supposedly trying to avoid with Warcraft 2's potential remaster rumored to be in development. It would need to follow in the footsteps of Diablo II: Resurrected to attract old and new players alike.

The main problem that Warcraft III: Reforged had was a variety of technical issues that made the overall gaming experience less than what fans had hoped for.

People want the studio to focus on graphical and technical upgrades while still preserving the original game's mechanics and feel.

Various Blizzard Leaks

The rumors for the remaster of Warcraft 2 came first to light by user Anshlun on the WowHead forums.

They shared several high-resolution logos and graphics related to the supposed project and explained that the assets were discovered following an update to Blizzard's CDNs, Bounding Into Comics said.

These are Content Delivery Networks that include a new title, Warcraft II: Remastered Internal Alpha. Anshlun then said that the information can be publicly viewed on BlizzTracker where fans can also see the full configuration file as well.

Blizzard issued an apology to fans of the series when Warcraft III: Reforged launched to a lot of negative reviews. This was also something that was seen in other high-profile remasters, such as Rockstar Games' GTA Trilogy, according to Games Radar.
