Blind Date's legendary 'Our Graham' dies as family pay tribute to voiceover icon

TV legend Graham Skidmore, best known for his voiceover work on Blind Date, has died aged 90.

The icon, who millions of viewers will know as 'Our Graham', was a regular part of the ITV dating show through the 80s and 90s.

He died on December 27, but the news was just announced today.

Graham was diagnosed with vascular dementia 10 years ago and has been living in Kent for the past few years.

The star's son Neil, 54, told The Sun: "He might not have wanted to be seen on screen, but he had a celebrity voice - a known voice.

"He loved it. I do event organising and had a show in London and got Dad to do the voice over. People recognised him straight away."

Neil went on to recall doing TV adverts with their father when they were younger, while his daughter, Catherine Johnson, 52, spoke about his first choice of career - which he missed out on due to an infection.

The voiceover star had wanted to initially be a doctor, but ended up missing his exams due to an ear infection, which ultimately changed his life.

She revealed that after his National Service, he went into engineering and - as a hobby - started singing and discovered he had an amazing voice.

“He was told he ought to try out for musicals," she said. "That is what got him into the theatre.

"Daddy was self employed and had other lines of work."

Graham had a launderette, a corner shop and did up some flats before going on to do voiceover work for Blind Date and Shooting Stars.

She added: "At my wedding when he started talking people were turning round saying ‘I know that voice’, even though they did not know he was the voice on Blind Date."
