Former Georgia running back Sony Michel, fresh off his second Super Bowl win in his four year NFL career, may be on the move this offseason.
The Los Angeles Rams don’t have much cap space and already have a pair of established running backs in Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson.
Bleacher Report recently named ideal landing spots for some of the top free agent running backs this offseason, and sees Michel to the Las Vegas Raiders as a solid fit.
The Raiders have Kenyan Drake and Josh Jacobs, but Drake will be recovering from a broken ankle and the pair underperformed during the 2021 season.
New Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels coached Michel as the Patriots offensive coordinator during Michel’s first three seasons.
McDaniels frequently used a committee backfield in New England, and a committee headlined by Jacobs, Michel and Drake could help Las Vegas significantly improve a rushing attack that ranked 28th in the NFL last season. The Raiders, who are projected to have $19.8 million in cap space, can afford to make it happen.
When Michel saw increased snaps toward the end of the 2021 regular season due to injuries ahead of him, he performed well, leading the NFL in rushing in the month of December with 423 yards.
