Blaze rips through Aberdeen student flats as huge flames seen from window

Fire crews have rushed to extinguish a roaring blaze at at student accommodation in Aberdeen.

Aberdeen Live reports that three fire engines were sent to the flats on the city's Willowbank Road following reports of a fire just after 2pm.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) firefighters made use of ventilation tools and breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze over the course of approximately an hour.

Officers also hopped onto a "cherry picker" height appliance to address the top floor fire from the outside.

A spokesperson for the SFRS told the Record it did not have any reports of casualties.

They said: "We were alerted at 2.12pm on Wednesday, April 6 to reports of a fire affecting a building in Willowbank Road, Aberdeen.

"Operations control immediately mobilised three fire engines and a height appliance to the location.

"Firefighters used small tools, PPV [ventilation equipment], four breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera to access the property and extinguish the fire.

"We stood down at 3.17pm and are no longer at the scene."

The Willowbank Road complex is run by student accomodation enterprise U-Student.

It told the Record: "The fire alarm was raised around 2:15pm today 6th April at ABeleven, our student accommodation property in Aberdeen.

"Our fire strategy was implemented immediately, the building evacuated and the emergency services in attendance.

"Our immediate priority is the safety and well being of all our residents, visitors, staff and fire crew.

"We will know more in relation to cause and effect in due course."
