A blaze broke out in Sefton Park on one of the hottest days of the year this morning.
The fire was attended by Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) after the service received a number of calls from concerned passersby. Fire crews first received reports of the fire at 10.09am on Saturday, August 13, and managed to get to the scene at 10.16am, with one fire engine attending the park.
Crews managed to put the fire out before dampening down the ground. A MFRS spokesperson confirmed that the crews were still at the scene as of 11am, with the fire not spreading to other areas of the park.

A spokesperson said: "We received multiple calls about a fire in Sefton Park, with the first report coming in at 10.09am. Crews were on the scene at 10.16am, with one pump still there now. Crews are replenishing and will continue to dampen down the area."
People online speculated that the fire may have been caused by a disposable barbeque, although there is no confirmation. This follows a number of supermarket chains such as Tesco, Sainsbury's and the Co-Op all banning the sales of disposable barbeques following warnings from fire brigades over the dangers.
