Dramatic footage has shown smoke pouring from the roof of a former Scots school after a "wilful" blaze took hold.
Emergency services raced to West George Street in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, at around 7.18pm on Monday (February 7).
Four fire crews were drafted in after a blaze took hold at the former Greenhill Primary School.
Worried residents reported 'big' flames as cops were forced to seal off surrounding streets.
One clip shows smoke pouring from the roof of the old school as firefighters try desperately to tackle the inferno.
Fire crews left the scene at around 2am after battling the blaze for a number of hours.
Residents were left saddened by the fire, with the now derelict school holding happy memories for many locals.
"Roof still ablaze, the wind is spreading it. Sad to watch", wrote one.
Another added: "Awful, so many lovely memories in this school."
One local said: "Too sad."
A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “We were alerted at 7.18pm on Monday to reports of a fire within a derelict building in West George Street, Coatbridge.
“Operations control immediately mobilised three fire engines and a height appliance to the location and firefighters extinguished the fire.
“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
A Police Scotland spokeswoman added: "There were no reports of any injuries.
“The fire is currently being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing."
