Blantyre Vics boss John Gibson says there’s a determination to bounce back to the West of Scotland Premier League at the first time of asking.
Gibson says that was made clear in how many players re-signed for their First Division campaign, including last season’s top scorer Sam Mackenzie, and experienced players such as Scott Gibson, Dale Jones and Scott Jarvie.
The Vics gaffer is delighted, but is under no illusions over how difficult a task is faced by his side in a fiercely competitive league.
Gibson said: “There are clubs coming down and some have set their intentions out with some big signings, ex-professional players, who are on good money.
“But we know what we’re trying to be, I know the players, and I have to give them the chance to try and get us there.
“I’ve been busy this summer trying to get the right ones in, and they will be a wee bit younger and inexperienced, but I’ve got to have faith in them.
“I have to give them a chance to perform on this stage – that’s how it is at Blantyre.”
Gibson added: “It will be terrific to play in, but it will be a hard league.
“We’re just below the top league, everybody’s aim will be to get themselves back up, and we’ll be no different.
“A few have left, I’ll make no bones about that, so it was important to get the right ones signed up and we’ve done well with that.”
