Blantyre Vics boss John Gibson says his side must work hard to rediscover form

Blantyre Vics boss John Gibson says his side must work hard to rediscover their early-season form after being dumped out of the Scottish Junior Cup third round with a 3-0 defeat to Troon.

Gibson says his side face a daunting task against West of Scotland First Division promotion favourites Drumchapel United and Gartcairn in their next two games, but says they’ll get the head down in training.

He said: “We’re giving goals away. Teams don’t have to work hard for the goals we’re giving them, which is disappointing.

“The first couple against Troon are preventable, definitely, and we lost the third right on half-time, which killed the game.

“It’s just basic mistakes and they’re killing us just now.

“The young boys are finding it hard, confidence has dipped a wee bit, and when these things happen to you it’s hard to get them out of it.

“We just need to keep working hard and those sort of things will change.”

Looking ahead to Drumchapel on Saturday and Gartcairn on Tuesday, Gibson said: “They’re two teams that are at the top of the league and will be looking to go up.

“They’re two of the favourites to go up, so it will be difficult, but we’ve proved in the first four or five games that we’re capable of taking points off of teams. It’s all about hard work and we’ll need to be prepared to do it.”
