Blanket coverage: cosy up with our selection

And so here we are again, edging slowly but surely into the new season: duvets are upping their tog rate, winter coats are being inspected for moth holes and sent to be dry cleaned and I’ve just ruined my first jumper of the year, turning a favourite baggy garment into a shrunken packet of Wotsits.

While it’s easy to feel the seasons change sartorially, it’s rare these days to do much at home to mark the transition. Historically it was standard practice to swap out your curtains and the loose covers on your upholstery at the turn of spring and the beginning of winter. It was also an opportunity to radically change the feel of the room and enjoy using new cottons and linens.

I digress. So, given all of this, what can we do now to cosy up? Obviously accessorise — a good blanket is a wonderful thing and has the brilliant dual function of keeping you warm through the latest season of Snabba Cash while allowing you to be a little bit decoration directional.

I love the perky retro nature of Ben Pentreath’s collection for Johnstons of Elgin and the Tartan Blanket Co’s hardcore gingham offering. And a big-brand household accessory really sorts the men from the boys (although, I don’t know if I can say that any more). Gucci rarely disappoints in its quality (and craziness) and I think I’d happily wander around the house wrapped in the animal-print Dolce & Gabbana blanket shown here. Autumn, let’s be having you.
