Plans to build almost 1k apartments at a site at the Blanchardstown shopping centre have been called "detrimental" and appealed by some of the most high profile tenants of the building.
Retailers including Lifestyle Sports, TK Maxx, Harvey Norman, Smyths and Woodies have all opposed the plan for the 971 apartment building for a car park within the shopping centre bounds. They're arguing that the construction would cut parking spaces by almost a third and would impact on business.
The development plans range from one to 16 storeys in height and were approved by Fingal County Council in January. Other issues mentioned included a lack of consultation with retailers and disruption to business during construction, the Irish Independent reports.

Concerns raised by Woodies included the "unsuitable" ten year development and TK Maxx said the "potential interruption to commercial operations" was an issue. While Smyths Toys said they had concerns over the "viability" of operating in their premises due to the expected disruption and Lifestyle Sports said the development would be a "detriment" to the stores and long-standing customers.
An Bord Pleanala is expected to make a decision on the development by May 29. Also included in the plans are a childcare facility and seven commercial units.
