Blake Shelton announces he's quitting The Voice US after 'a hell of a ride'

Blake Shelton has said it's "time for me to come home" as he announced he is quitting the US version of singing competition The Voice.

The musician, 46, revealed he is stepping down from his coaching duties after season 23, which is to air next year.

He made the announcement in a lengthy and heartfelt post on Instagram on Tuesday in which he admitted he has been "wrestling with this for a while".

He said of his 12 years on the show: "This show has changed my life in every way for the better, and it will always feel like home to me. It’s been a hell of a ride over these 12 years of chair turns, and I want to thank everyone at The Voice from NBC, every producer, the writers, musicians, crew and catering people, you are the best. It takes a lot of work, passion, and adult beverages (Ha!) to pull off a live show twice a week."

And he continued to praise the strong bonds he's made on the show, adding: "I've made lifelong bonds with Carson [Daly] and every single one [of] my fellow coaches over the years, including my wife Gwen Stefani!"

Blake then gave shoutouts to all the contestants who graced the stage of the competition and thanked them for sharing their talents.

He ended his post by saying: "Lastly, it's about y'all, the fans, who watch and support these artists, us coaches and everyone at The Voice who are chasing their dreams."

Country singer Blake and Gwen tied the knot in July last year and the No Doubt songstress gushed "dreams do come true".

They wed in Oklahoma on the eve of July 4 celebrations in the US and Gwen, 53, shared a number of sweet snaps of the big day at the time.

The marriage is both of the pair's second marriage, with Gwen being previously married to lead singer of the band Bush, Gavin Rossdale. She shares three sons with the star, but the pair called it quits in 2016.

Blake was previously wed to singer Miranda Lambert but they announced they had divorced after four years of marriage in July 2015.

During his time on the show, Blake has bagged eight wins and coached an impressive 15 singers who have had number one hits on the iTunes Top Songs chart.

It's reported fellow judges Gwen Stefani, Camila Cabello and John Legend will also step down from their roles on the show when season 23 ends.
