Blake Lively praises 'magic' husband Ryan Reynolds for major Wrexham win

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were the happiest couple in north-east Wales yesterday, as the couple celebrated Wrexham’s historic win and promotion to the Championship with a three-nil victory over Charlton Athletic.

This marks the football team’s third successive promotion since the Hollywood megastar became an owner of the club, taking the team from the National League to the Championship in just three seasons.

Wrexham has been co-owned by Deadpool actor Reynolds and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney since November 2020.

But it’s the unlikely WAG figure of Blake Lively that has silently captivated so many this weekend, with the It Ends With Us star treating the showdown at the Racecourse stadium with the same respect as if it were the Super Bowl.

Lively lavished her new football club with praise on Instagram yesterday, writing: “Back to back to back. History was made. Congratulations to @wrexham_afc I will never forget the love and elation in that town today. Thank you for sharing it with us always.”

The Another Simple Favour actress then turned her attention to husband Reynolds and friend McElhenney, whom she praised for “the love and respect that pours out of you each and together exponentially grows and creates more joy, more possibilties, more magic, more history.”

Sharing the kind words over a picture of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney hugging in the stands, she added: “This picture to me feels like a painting of all you do for so many while being so present and appreciative of every moment.”

And Lively wasn’t the only one getting emotional on the ‘gram. Ryan Reynolds made a lengthy post about the win, writing: “We’ve been with Wrexham for what seems like the blink of an eye, but so much has happened.

“I remember the first press conference, we were asked what our goals were… and I think Rob jumped in with, ‘The Premier League.’ People laughed. They had every right to. It seemed insane… But we weren’t kidding.

“I feel at home here. It’s a place that values community, decency and history. From the respect it pays to the Gresford Disaster, to the feeling of hope and miracles created by Mickey Thomas.

“These are big reasons Wrexham is growing into what it always was. It isn’t just a place with a history of ups and downs, it’s also a FEELING. And a feeling is sometimes as good or better than a memory.”

It’s been a turbulent few years for the A-list couple, who have experienced extreme highs with the success of their respective recent blockbusters, Deadpool & Wolverine and It Ends With Us, while simultaneously battling the reputational car crash and resulting legal case against Lively’s former co-star Justin Baldoni. The court date for their civil trial is set for May 29, 2026.
