Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are ahead of an emerging paint trend that brings 'characterful luxury' to every space

Blake Lively.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds may already have a reputation for shaping trends, but their influence extends to their upstate New York abode – specifically, their paint choices.

The couple has already influenced how we paint, starting with their gray exterior hue and blue living space – but their bronze-hued choice is the latest hue to excite experts. According to color authorities, we are set to see more 'sophisticated' tones like the one seen in their home, especially when it comes with a Blake-inspired metallic twist.

'There is an increasing popularity for welcoming rich chestnut colors, which work so well at this time of year,' comments Benjamin Moore's color trend expert Helen Shaw.

In her post, Blake references 'loud luxury' – likely in relation to her pink dress that's surely Serena van der Woodsen-approved. However, we can't help but think her caption fits her rich paint choices, too.

'Using this hue in a gloss finish will create a cozy retreat – the reflective sheen will constantly shift and evolve, increasing natural light and bringing a sense of characterful luxury to your space,' Helen says.

While we don't know specifically what shade Blake and Ryan have used in their home, we can still replicate their style with similar rich shades of brown (in that all-important glossy finish). 'Deep, captivating shades of brown, such as Night Owl, add warmth and sophistication to a room.'

Plus, Helen is not exclusive in her observations. Sherwin-Williams 2024 color trend report similarly predicts a rising trend for deep hues – specifically in their third palette – described as a 'gathering of deeps and darks.'

Sherwin-Williams's director of color marketing, Sue Wadden, explains how these hues create a 'daring and powerful atmosphere' when paired with metallic accents for a stylish alternative to Blake's paint choices.

If we want a similar aesthetic without going all-out metallic, we should opt for a dark hue (with a similar richness) and pair it with metallic accents for a subtler twist on the trend.

'Utilize this range of dark and dramatic hues as contrast with colored light or gilded metallic accents. While the deeply saturated dark tones will invite mystery and intrigue, they also create a restful retreat,' Sue says.

Similarly, for a finish like Blake and Ryan's, we're looking to this warm hue from Backdrop below.
