After a promising start at the American Express, Blades Brown finds himself in the qualifiers circuit for his next event on the PGA Tour. While Brown had a stunning second round at American Express, he fell short of the cut, leaving him to play in the Farmers Insurance Open qualifier on Monday.
Only the top four finishers will earn an exemption in the tournament. Despite his best efforts, Brown again falls short at the Farmers Insurance Open qualifiers, losing in a playoff round to Chris Korte. The 17-year-old shot a 69 and barely missed his shot at another PGA Tour event.
Blades Brown Falls Short at Farmers Insurance Open Qualifier
At 17 years old, Blades Brown took a less traditional route of foregoing college and entering the professional golf circuit. Like other aspiring professionals, Brown needed to secure a spot in the qualifiers for an opportunity to play at the Farmers Insurance Open.
There were 72 players listed in the field, and only 55 players finished the whole round. Brown had a solid round with six birdies, 15 pars, and only three bogeys on the day. He was tied for fourth place, resulting in a playoff round against Chris Korte and Pono Yanagi.
While fans won’t see Blades Brown at the Farmers Insurance Open, there is a lot of potential for the 17-year-old, who beat out some PGA Tour regulars like Michael Block and Chez Reavie.
Farmers Insurance Open Qualifier Leaderboard
The four final qualifiers for the Famers Insurance Open include Charles Reiter, Ryan Hall, Jim Knous, and Chris Korte. Korte had a magical finish on the day to earn the fourth and final spot, including winning a 3-for-1 playoff spot over Brown and Yanagi.
