Blackheath: Police out in force after 'number of violent incidents' at fairground

Parents are being urged to get their children home amid a large scale disorder taking place at a funfair.

Police are out in force at the funfair at Circus Field, Blackheath, where lines of officers have been captured breaking up the crowds with dogs in tow.

Footage and images shared to Twitter showed a large number of officers at the field, where they appeared to be forming a human barrier.

Another Twitter user posted a video showing a handful of police vans lining what appear to be the streets surrounding the field. Dozens of officers - some in regular police uniform and others donning high-vis vests - are milling around the streets.

In one video, a helicopter could be heard flying overhead.

According to Metro reports, police said a section 60 order had been placed around Greenwich Park and Blackheath Common until 7am tomorrow morning.

Labour MP for Greenwich and Woolwich Matthew Pennycook tweeted to say he was "aware of the large-scale disorder taking place on Circus Field, Blackheath".

"The police are deploying extra resource," he said.

"Please avoid the area. If you believe your child is at the funfair or in the area, please ask them to return home immediately."

And the Royal Borough of Greenwich also tweeted, urging parents to keep their children safe.

"Following the disorder at #Blackheath funfair we are asking all parents to make sure their children are nowhere near the area, for their own safety," the tweet read.

The Mirror has contacted Blackheath Westcombe police for further comment.
